This 5 days wildlife and chimpanzee trekking safari features two iconic national parks in Rwanda: Akagera national park and Nyungwe Forest National park. Nyungwe features two popular activities: chimpanzee trekking and forest canopy walk. Akagera National Park is famous for wildlife- a boat cruise on Lake Ihema and a game drive through the savanna grassland shall enable you view different wild game like the Elephants, leopards, Maasai giraffe, Antelopes and others. The tour shall integrate some cultural tours with historical tour of Butare and Nyanza. You shall also visit the Kigali genocide memorial to recount what transpired during the genocide that befell Rwanda.

Day 1

Visit the Kigali genocide memorial and transfer to Akagera National park

Early in the morning after breakfast, you shall drive to the Kigali genocide memorial to explore what happened during 1994. On arrival, you shall see content is different form-Audios, pictures, writings and others. Afterwards, start your journey to Akagera national park. Akagera national park is 135 kilometres away from Kigali, journey through beautiful landscapes of the countryside. Arrive in Akagera and go check in your lodge. Relax, dine, and sleep while thinking about the coming days. Depending on the choice of the lodge, there are lodges like Ruzizi tented lodge which reside at the bank of the river and they offer unimaginable and quiet environment. Day 2

Game drive and boat cruise at Akagera N Park

After breakfast, you shall drive to the park to start the morning game drive. This experience offers occasions to spot wild game like the Elephants, leopards, Maasai giraffe, antelopes and others. If you are lucky enough, you shall see predators hunting for their prey. After, drive back to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation. In the afternoon, you shall drive to Lake Ihema for a boat cruise experience. Lake Ihema inhabits popular aquatic animals like Hippopotamus, Nile crocodiles, and others- you shall see them up close as you are sailing through the waters. At the bank, expect to listen to the adorable chanting of endemic bird species. Retreat and drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Day 3

Drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

After a wonderful breakfast, you shall drive to Nyungwe forest national park. You shall enjoy the drive into these impressive countryside landscapes and also the well tarmacked and clean zig-zag roads. The roads provide a relaxing road trip. Enjoy that bit of it and later arrive in Nyungwe. Check in your lodge, relax and wait for dinner and take a deep sleep. Day 4

Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

Early in the morning, preferably after breakfast, the tour guide shall drive you to the park headquarters for briefing about the chimpanzees. Later, with the help of the park ranger who is always armed, you shall move into this deep forest in search of the chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are easily traceable due to the noise that they make. They like chanting. After 2-5 hours, you shall spot the chimpanzees in their natural habitats. Enjoy their acrobatic movements, socialization, and other living styles which shall be displayed. During that period you shall be allured to take as many photos as you can. Retreat and move back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you shall embark on the canopy walk. This walk enables you to have a bird’s view of the surroundings. Retire and drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Day 5

Transfer to Kigali City

You shall drive back to Kigali but on your way, you shall make a stopover at Butare to visit the ethnographic museum which houses over 100,000 artifacts which give a great understanding of Rwanda’s history. Later, you shall continue to the Nyanza and visit the royal palace which belonged to the notable Rwanda kings: King Musinga and king Rudahigwa. Later, drive straight to Rwanda to mark the end of the tour.
